Turkeytail Fungus

Trametes versicolor

A common mushroom in our forests, known for its distinctive coloration and high value as a medicinal fungus.

Characteristics:

It mainly grows on trunks and branches of decaying broadleaf trees such as oaks, beeches, and poplars, as well as on the stumps of felled trees. It prefers temperate, humid climates. This cosmopolitan species is found on every continent except Antarctica and adapts well to various environments, especially deciduous and mixed forests.

Gastronomy:

Not suitable for fresh consumption due to its woody texture. It is used in its dried form for medicinal purposes, credited with immune-boosting properties, antioxidant effects, antimicrobial benefits, and digestive support. It is commonly prepared as an infusion, tea, wine, or soup, or added in powdered form to smoothies or stews.
