Reishi
Ganoderma lucidum
One of the most highly valued mushrooms in traditional Chinese medicine.

Characteristics:
Reishi is a lignicolous species that typically fruits saprotrophically, almost always on dead wood. Occasionally, it may emerge from the ground, but it is always associated with buried oak or holm oak branches. On the colonized substrate, it produces a very evident white rot.
Gastronomy:
This is a very particular mushroom: it is consumed, but not for culinary purposes. Its tough texture makes it unsuitable for typical cooking methods. Traditionally, in China and other Eastern countries, it is consumed in infusions due to the significant medicinal properties attributed to it. The specimens are dried and can be sliced or ground into powder.
